WORLDWIDE – Heading up this weeks list of staff movements in the shipping, freight forwarding and overall logistics fields comes the news that the International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) has confirmed that that it’s former Secretary General, Daniel Fernandez, has left the Association. Doug Brittin succeeds Fernandez as Secretary General, effective August 15th.

CANADA – Merv Tweed, Member of Parliament for Brandon-Souris and former Chairman of the House of Commons Transport Committee, announced that he will be resigning his seat effective August 31, 2013 to take up the position of President of OmniTRAX Canada.

Lenny Berz has been appointed to the position of Vice President of Business Development for OmniTRAX, Inc. effective July 22, 2013. In his new role, Lenny will be responsible for developing and leading strategic sales initiatives for OmniTRAX and specifically overseeing our Sales and Marketing efforts on the Western Region and in Canada.

US – C.H. Robinson Worldwide, Inc., one of the world’s largest produce sourcing and logistics companies, has promoted Gary York to the newly created position of Director of Sourcing, Europe. In his new role, York will establish the overall team and resources that will facilitate the further development and expansion of sourcing in Europe, and look to other regions of the world to further develop alternative supply programmes.

US – UPS Senior Vice President for Communications and Brand Management, Christine Owens, has announced her retirement after 33 years with the company. Teri McClure, the company's Chief Legal and Compliance Officer, will assume the additional responsibility for global communications and brand management at UPS.

US – Menlo Worldwide Logistics has announced that Susan Santo has been named Senior Director and Chief Counsel. Santo assumes the top legal role at Menlo and becomes responsible for leading the company's legal team and directing legal activities in the US and overseas. She is based at Menlo's global headquarters in San Francisco.

US – Chicago Freight Car Leasing has named long-time employee Jay Wilensky as its new Vice President, Accounting & Finance.

US – SOUTH EAST ASIA –  The AdvanFort Company , which provides armed escorts for vessels travelling through troubled waters, has announced a series of appointments to strengthen its sales team in South East Asia. Axel Tuetken, Business Development Director for Northern Europe, has been chosen for the newly-created global position of Vice President for Sales and Business Development. Joining Tuetken in the Global Sales Team are Ken Park, Representative in Korea; Shinobu Yamazoe, Representative in Japan; and Jimmy Chan, Representative in Sinapore.

RUSSIA – JAPAN – KOREA –Denis Ilyin has been appointed as Executive President of AirBridgeCargo Airlines (ABC). Ilyin took up his new post on August 1st. Ilyin’s new responsibilities will be to further increase ABC’s quality and effectiveness, and to centralise business management.

The company also announced that Nagakazu Sagara has joined ABC as Vice President, Japan and Korea. Katsuhiko Sagami, former Vice President/Area Director Japan & Korea, will continue to work as mentor and coach for the region until the year-end.

SWITZERLAND – DHL Freight announced that Marc Bernitt has been appointed as new Head of Customs Management. Effective August 1, Bernitt will be responsible for the global development of DHL Freight's customs business. Bernitt will report directly to Bernhard Wirth, Senior Vice President Operations, DHL Freight.

SWITZERLAND – In one of the most notable changes this month the Board of Directors of Kuehne + Nagel have announced the appointment of Dr. Detlef Trefzger as the Company’s new CEO, with immediate effect.

GERMANY – On August 1, Professor Thomas Strothotte became the new president of Kuehne Logistics University. He will represent the University within higher education and in the political sphere.

SPAIN – Effective September 1, 2013, Lluís Gay, who has been the head of Land Transport at DB Schenker Logistics in Spain since 2007, will assume the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Schenker Logistics, SAU. Gay’s Predecessor, Jaume Ballester, will be retiring as CEO but will continue to hold responsibility as the Head of Land Transport in Region Europe West at DB Schenker Logistics until further notice.

THE NETHERLANDS – Gist has announced the appointment of Chris Cooijmans as Business Unit Director, Continental Europe. Cooijmans will take responsibility for the management of Gist's Continental European business and he will be based at Bleiswijk, Gist's Dutch Office.

UK – The United Kingdom Warehousing Association (UKWA) has announced two significant appointments within its management board with Tony Mohan, Regional Sales Manager at Bibby Distribution, taking on the role of the Association’s Vice Chairman and Peter Masters, Managing Director of Miniclipper Logistics, elected to the UKWA board to represent those UKWA members who operate storage facilities of 200,000 square feet or less.

UK – GEFCO has appointed a new head of HR to oversee its UK operations. John Smith, who joined the company in June 2013, joined GEFCO from global logistics firm Wincanton, where he held the position of Senior HR Business Partner. Under Smith’s watch, GEFCO UK will continue to grow its own Graduate Programme to identify and attract graduates interested in a career in a global supply chain company.

UK – Palletline has announced three appointments, to newly created roles, to support its future growth strategy. Martin Rantle will take up the position of Sales & Marketing Director; Maria Holmes-Keeling as Marketing Manager; and Debbie Wyatt as HR and Training Manager.

UK – Harry Bradshaw and Martyn Reeves have been named as the new joint owners of Handistep. Bradshaw also runs Ringwood, Hampshire, based engineering firm Walker Scott, which manufactures Handistep’s products along with electrical wiring harnesses. Reeves is a director of Bevan Group, based in Halesowen, West Midland. They are joined by Ken Brewis, who has taken on the role of Sales & Technical Director.
