USA – Freight and logistics service provider Con-way Freight has been shortlisted for the Civilianjobs.com ‘2010 Most Valuable Employers (MVE) for Military’ award.

The award recognises those companies who employ former military personnel and is based on surveys in which employers outlined their 2010 recruiting, training and retention plans that best serve military service members and veterans and assists military-experienced job seekers in identifying the top employers to target for civilian careers.

In 2008 Con-way’s become a participant in the U.S. Department of Labor National Apprenticeship Program, which permits eligible veterans and active members of the Guard and Reserves to receive paid on-the-job training using GI Bill benefits.

This enabled military veterans who choose to start truck driving careers with Con-way Truckload to use their benefits to supplement their income in the first year of employment whilst they gained skill qualifications and experience.

“Supporting veterans and employees called to active duty is a long tradition at Con-way and we feel it is our duty to them — and to the nation in which we freely live, work and do business,” said David L. Miller, senior vice president, global policy and economic sustainability, Con-way Inc.

“We also want to encourage other employers to learn from our rich history of commitment and encourage them to adopt similar value systems. As a business, we owe these individuals and their families nothing less. It’s an honor to be named among Civilianjobs.com’s finalists for the 2010 Most Valuable Employers (MVE) for Military.”
