USA – New York-based Eagle Bulk Shipping, a major global owner/operator of Supramax vessels to the bulk commodity market, has taken delivery of two new build bulk carriers, Thrasher and Avocet. The addition of these two vessels brings Eagle Bulk's total on-the-water fleet to 32 vessels.

Both vessels have entered into nine year time charters at an average rate of just over $18,000 per day for the period. The contracts are expected to earn Eagle Bulk Shipping approximately $59 million in minimum contracted revenue.

The new builds join Eagle’s other recent additions Jaeger, Crowned Eagle and Osprey I which all entered service last month on short term charters.

At the time Eagle stated that their fleet, which is composed of dry bulk vessels that range in size from 50,000 to 60,000 deadweight tons, had time charter agreements for 58% of available days for 2010.
