UK – When you are one of the country’s largest independent online fashion and beauty retailers, and you offer free shipping to over 190 countries worldwide, then supply chain logistics is bound to come pretty high on your list of priorities. To reinforce their place in a very competitive market, and to proof against problems when facing transporting goods all around the globe in an ever changing and challenging market, ASOS.com has recently signed up to be a sponsor for the new 4-year Novus Logistics and Supply Chain BSc degree course, which offers successful graduates a guaranteed job.
The group, headquartered in London with a main distribution hub based in Yorkshire, despatches many of its 60,000 or so lines on a daily basis and by sponsoring the Novus course hopes to ensure a steady flow of competent and well trained staff for the future. Founder of Novus, Andy Kaye said:
“We are tremendously proud to have ASOS as a Novus degree sponsor. The independent online fashion and beauty retailer is an exciting and innovative player in the world of internet shopping. Visited by millions every day it ships the latest trends to customers in [hundreds of] countries. This places the company at the centre of the global supply chain world also. Together, these characteristics epitomise the modern supply chain challenges that NOVUS graduates will be equipped to tackle.”
The degree awarded at the end of their course will arm graduates with the tools they need for a successful career in the industry, starting with a guaranteed job from one of the course sponsors. In addition to an initial joining fee of £5000, sponsoring companies provide mentors, paid placements in the holiday periods and third year, course content and case studies and, finally, at least one graduate job per year commencing in September 2017. A proportion of the graduate salary will be used to repay student loans and the scheme is run on a ‘not-for-profit’ basis
Students commenced the pilot Novus Logistics and Supply Chain degree course, at the University of Huddersfield in September 2013 and a full list of sponsor companies can be found on the new Novus Web site, which also has full details of the degree course for potential undergraduates and of the sponsorship opportunities for companies in the sector. Andy Kaye concluded:
“The Novus Trust is now reaching out to all those who are interested in commencing the Novus degree as undergraduates in September 2014. We would also encourage more companies to sign up for the exciting sponsorship opportunities. In doing so you will be helping to inspire tomorrow’s supply chain professionals and gaining an opportunity to recruit the best new talent.”
