CENTRAL ASIA – FRANCE – ITALY – No matter the glamour of project freight forwarding consignments which draw attention to the air freight industry the bread and butter for the trade is usually the smaller, high value items which support it (as evidenced by the recent US gold robbery). Airfreight group Art Logistics says that with Kazakhstan’s annual luxury goods market worth in excess of US$900 million, demand for imported European fashion products, cosmetics and jewellery is growing quickly from the country’s increasingly affluent population.

This belief has led the company to launch a new airfreight service linking Western Europe to Central Asia, a specialist area for the forwarder, focused on moving such valuable items between France and Italy to Kazakhstan and other modern Turkic states, Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan. The Asian Development Bank forecasts GDP in Kazakhstan to grow by 5.2% in 2013 and 5.6% in 2014, accelerating to 7.6 percent in 2015 whilst Kazakhstan’s government forecasts for oil exports to reach as much as 3.5 million barrels per day in 2015 which is what it is believed will help fuel the growing economy.

Art Logistics says it has experienced staff on the ground in all major cities in Central Asia, processing import documentation and certification with government departments. The company also works closely with international organizations such as CITES to gain approval for imported shoes and handbags to ensure no endangered species were used in the products. Aliya Mussina, Global Airfreight Manager, commented:

“Our customers include leading global brand name jewellers and fashion companies who require secure, time-definite delivery of their products. In Kazakhstan for example each item of jewellery has to be assayed, certified and stamped by the assay office, we provide bonded transportation to and from the airport. Imports of many of the products require multiple certification and co-ordination between different government departments. One error in the paperwork will delay the whole chain of approval and result in delays in delivering the products.”
