Four Shipping Companies to Begin Cooperation Agreement Sailings in April
Shipping News Feature
WORLDWIDE – Following the recent approval from the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC), the members of the new container lines freight partnership, the OCEAN Alliance (CMA CGM, Cosco Container Lines, Evergreen Line and Orient Overseas Container Line) have signed the ‘Day One Product’, which sets out the proposed OCEAN Alliance’s network, including port rotation for each service loop. The four partners will share their capacity on several routes to offer more services, together operating 40 services on the East-West trades with around 100 ports of call and almost 500 port pairs.

Supported by a fleet of nearly 350 vessels with about 3.5 million TEUs in total capacity, the Alliance says it ‘hopes to comply with the requirements of global supply chains while providing higher sailing frequencies, improved transit times and greater coverage in terms of loops, ports of call and port pairs’. As the main contributor to this alliance, the CMA CGM Group will have the largest slice of service supply within the alliance, deploying a fleet of 119 vessels with a 35% capacity share. The Day One network will operate in the following trade lanes:

  • 20 Transpacific services (estimated 160 port pairs, with 13 Asia - West Coast North America services, 7
  • Asia - East Coast North America and US Gulf services)
  • 6 Asia - Europe services (estimated 110 port pairs)
  • 5 Asia - Mediterranean services (estimated 165 port pairs)
  • 3 Transatlantic services (estimated 70 port pairs)
  • 5 Asia – Middle East services (estimated 70 port pairs)
  • 2 Asia - Red Sea services (estimated 35 port pairs)

Moving forward, the OCEAN Alliance says it will continue to work closely with all the authorities to ensure full compliance with applicable laws and regulations and secure the necessary regulatory approvals for the commencement of operations from April 1st 2017.
