DENMARK – Damco, the independent logistics arm of shipping giants AP Moller-Maersk, have outlined their intentions to advance their airfreight capability with the appointment of Mr. Remo Eigenmann as the new Head of Airfreight. “As Damco, we have industry strength in our supply chain management and ocean freight offering and delivery, but felt we could further strengthen our airfreight offering,” said Martin Thaysen, Chief Commercial Officer at Damco.

Mr. Eigenmann is a Swiss national and comes with a broad experience in business having worked for ABB, Swissair and AT Kearney. In addition to this he has worked 6 years for Panalpina where he held several key positions. These include the reorganization of a gateway in the US, the development of the world wide airfreight strategy, the implementation of a global airfreight IT system and as Head of Panalpina’s global airfreight organisation.

Damco say they consider airfreight to be a vital component in developing an all round logistics operation being the preferred choice for any company that needs to take advantage of the speed of air due to short product life cycles, commodities’ physical longevity and unforeseen stock-outs, where shortest time to market is a must. The company intends to build capabilities significantly, penetrating into geographies and industry verticals where they currently have minimal or no airfreight presence.
