KOREA – GERMANY – This week saw the latest vessel in the Hamburg Süd container fleet christened with a ceremony at the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea. The 9,034 TEU ship is the second newbuild in the series of three new ‘San’ class ships and, in keeping with the German shipping line's tradition of carrying temperature controlled freight, each vessel includes 1,370 reefer slots.

The Sponsor of the new vessel, the San Christobal, is Natalie Jacobs, wife of Dr Andreas Jacobs, who is a member of the Advisory Board of Dr August Oetker KG and the naming ceremony was witnessed by both customers and business partners of the line.

At 300 metres long with a maximum draught of 14.5 metres the new ship will operate the Hamburg Süd service between Asia and the East coast of South America carrying general cargo and reefer goods, including frozen meat, fruit and vegetables.
