PRESTON / UK - Lancashire born solicitor Janci Karri has arrested ships, handled multi-million dollar cases, and practised at one of the world’s largest law firms, but now she has returned to her roots to launch her own pioneering consultancy in Preston, aimed at the global shipping industry.

Building on the success of her commercial legal consultancy, Legal Difference, Ms. Karri will launch a specialist shipping law consultancy in March 2010, Karri & Co International Trade and Shipping Law, which will allow her to bring her fifteen years experience as a practising shipping and international trade litigation solicitor.

Ms. Karri explained: “My practice as a solicitor has taken me all over the world, but having come full circle, I have set about developing a niche business in international trade and shipping law in my home town and the North West’s third city, itself steeped in a history of global shipping.”

“Karri & Co will be based in Preston but will also have a strong London presence from the outset. Within five years, my goal is to extend its influence through my international contacts, and establish a truly global footing.

“With Karri & Co’s background in shipping law and international litigation, it is perfectly positioned to respond to the growing demand for shipping law expertise, particularly in light of the Rotterdam Rules, which are set to affect all businesses involved in the shipping chain.”

Karri & Co will advise companies based overseas and in the UK with legal matters and disputes related to shipping and the new United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Carriage of Goods Wholly or Partly by Sea 2009, colloquially known as the ‘Rotterdam Rules’.

The new company will be located in a state-of-the-art business incubation facility provided by the University of Central Lancashire’s Knowledge Transfer Service.
