UK – The RFG AGM and Annual Policy Meeting will be held on 12th September 2012, at The Oxford Centre, Oxford. This meeting provides an opportunity to discuss some of the main issues for rail freight development over the coming year whilst helping to shape the Rail Freight Group’s (RFG’s) policy in these areas. This year, with the focus very much on the Periodic Review 2013, Chris Carr who leads the Department of Transport's Freight Team will give an update on Government's perspectives on rail freight, and the recently published High Level Output Specification. Cathryn Ross, Director of Markets and Economics at the Office of Rail Regulation will also present on the progress of the periodic review, and the crucial next steps in determining freight charges.

The event will also feature Ian Ballentine from Network Rail, who will provide an overview of the new framework for contracting projects. Presenting plans for rail and what retailers are looking for in rail freight is Head of Logistics Strategy at Marks and Spencers, Emil Naus. Other presentations include a Cargo Rail Express (CAREX) proposal by Francois Coarte of Europorte, and John Ingram of the Transport Knowledge Transfer Network has agreed to present on the numerous work-streams that are being progressed under this initiative, and the opportunities for rail freight.

The AGM will be preceded by the 2012 Rail Freight Group Awards on Tuesday 11th September, held on The Oxford Centre, Oxford. Chris Green will be the guest speaker for the evening, and there will be a charity raffle in support of the Railway Benefit Fund. The awards dinner celebrates successes in the rail freight sector.
