UK – Stena Line have launched a campaign to raise awareness of their latest freight and passenger services with the announcement of deals in Liverpool and Belfast. The RoRo ferry company obtained permission from the Competition Commission to add the Belfast to Liverpool (Birkenhead) and Belfast to Heysham routes to its four existing Irish sea routes earlier this month and the Swedish managed group are looking forward to the opening of their new port, Loch Ryan in Cairnryan with new service offerings in November.

Michael McGrath, Stena Line’s Area Director – Irish Sea announced last week that the company is both to sponsor Stena Line Belfast Giants ice hockey team for the next two years and that it had become the Official Travel Partner of this year’s Liverpool Food and Drink Festival. He commented:

“Winning trophies is always the measure of sports teams but it doesn't show their contribution to their community. The Stena Line Belfast Giants provide excellent family entertainment; work with schools and youth organisations across Northern Ireland and through the Giants Foundation they are dedicated to making a positive impact in the community. Stena Line is proud to be associated with them through this title sponsorship.

“We are delighted to be Official Travel Partner of the 2011 Liverpool Food and Drink Festival. We are keen to build our presence and identity within Liverpool and its surrounding area and we see this festival as an ideal opportunity to introduce Stena Line to a very important audience. We see great potential in this new route and look forward to growing both tourism and freight significantly”.

Stena Line, will bring a taste of Ireland to the event’s launch weekend at Sefton Park on the 3rd and 4th September by offering visitors samples of Irish food and drink, complimented by a programme of traditional Irish bands across the two days.

Meanwhile work on the Loch Ryan project is proceeding apace and Stena is intending to bring two of the largest ferries on to service the new route between Northern Ireland and Scotland for freight and private vehicles.
