CYPRUS - This years safety forum for merchant and other shipping will be held in Cyprus between the 11th and 16th October.

The annual meeting of the Marine Accident Investigators’ International Forum (MAIIF) is designed to bring together safety experts and casualty investigators from all round the world.

MAIIF is a non profit organisation dedicated to reducing maritime accidents and preventing marine pollution and comprises representatives of various accident investigation boards world wide. Membership is available to anyone who is engaged in marine accident investigation in an official capacity.

The head of the Cypriot Department of Merchant Shipping, Mr Serghios Serghiou, stressed the importance of the Limassol talks and was reported to be delighted at the choice of venue.

Safety is often the first casualty during times of economic hardship within the merchant shipping industry and transport organisations generally, traditionally causing an increase in the number of accidents and mishaps.
