US – Rick Gassman has been hitting the road, without hitting anything else, for over half a century, and yesterday he was honoured by his company, Greatwide Logistics, national 3PL providers, for passing four million miles without even as much as a moving traffic violation let alone an accident whilst shipping customers product from his Dubuque, Iowa base. Even by his employers 26% improvement in safety over the past four years, Rick’s record appears exceptional.
After being selected as company Driver of the year in 2008 and recently coming in as runner up in the prestigious Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) Company Equipment Driver of the Year competition, Rick has driven more than four and a half million miles without a collision. That's the equivalent of driving cross-country more than 1,300 times, or driving around the earth 160 times - all without a single accident.
Rick’s delivery operations centre works principally for Nordstrom, a specialty fashion retail group, and John Simone, president and chief operating officer of Greatwide Logistics Services paid homage to his driver’s outstanding achievements:
"On behalf of everyone at Greatwide, we are honoured to have a professional driver such as Mr. Gassman in our organization, Because of drivers like him, we have been able to provide Nordstrom an exceptional level of service with a best-in-class collision rate of 2.18 collisions per million miles.”
This year most US truck companies have been closely examining their safety record and Greatwide Logistics are no exception, Loren VandenBerghe, director of transportation at Nordstrom said:
"We are very proud to have Rick as part of the Greatwide team and appreciate the support he and all the other Greatwide drivers provide for our business.”
Greatwide Logistics Services transport dedicated and ad hoc truckloads throughout Canada and the US and is the largest provider of dedicated refrigerated transportation in the country.
