Staff Appointments and Departures in Shipping and Logistics This Week

GERMANY – Shipping group Panalpina has announced Christian Wurst as its new Regional Chief Executive Officer for Europe. He will join the company by February 2019 and will be based in Frankfurt, Germany, with responsibility for the Europe region. Wurst has more than 20 years of international experience in the freight forwarding and logistics industry and a broad knowledge of European markets and cultures. He joins Panalpina from Ceva Logistics where he most recently held the position of Managing Director, Germany.

GREECE – Diana Shipping has announced the expansion of its Board of Directors, effective since August 1. The company is increasing the size of its Board, from nine to eleven members, appointing Christos Glavanis to serve a Class I Director and Andreas Michalopoulos, Diana's Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, to serve as a Class III Director.

Additionally, effective the same date, Ioannis Zafirakis was appointed to the newly created role of Chief Strategy Officer, and Semiramis Paliou to succeed Zafirakis as Chief Operating Officer.

The Board also increased the size of its Executive Committee from three to five members, appointing Michalopoulos and Paliou as new Members.

UK – The Connect Group has announced Jozef Opdeweegh as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective September 1. He takes over from Mark Cashmore, who will be stepping down from his role and the Board, from August 31, in order to pursue new opportunities. He will remain with the company for a short period of time to ensure a smooth transition.

GERMANY – SINGAPORE – Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) has boosted its senior management team with the appointment of two new Managing Directors in Germany and Singapore. Nick Topham will head BSM Germany based in Hamburg and Raymond Peter will be his BSM Singapore counterpart.

AUSTRALIA – Mark Hulme, Chief Operations Officer at DP World Australia has resigned after 18 years. He leaves his role mid-August.

US – XPO Logistics has announced that John Hardig will step down as Chief Financial Officer on August 15. He will remain available to the company in an advisory capacity through September 15. Sarah Glickman, Senior Vice President, Corporate Finance, will assume the role of acting CFO. Hardig has served as XPO’s first CFO since February 2012 and is leaving to spend more time with his family.

US – Union Pacific (UP) has appointed Lynden Tennison as its new Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer, effective since August 1. A 26-year Union Pacific veteran, Tennison has been Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer since February 2005. Until a replacement for Tennison's previous role is found, he will continue to serve as Interim CIO.

UP also announced the changes in it Information Technology organisation. Rick Holmes has been named Assistant Vice President – Information Assurance, Alan Fisher as Assistant Vice President – Commercial Technology, and Brett Frankenberger as Assistant Vice President – Systems Engineering. All effective since August 1.

US – The Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) has announced Benjamin Trogdon to become the Director of the Bureau of Enforcement, succeeding Brian Troiano, who is retiring this month. Trogdon joined the FMC in July 2000 and serves as a Trial Attorney in BOE. He will assume his new duties effective August 5.

US – American P&I Club has announced a series of appointments. Dorothea Ioannou becomes Chief Commercial Officer, Arpad Kadi becomes Chief Financial Officer, Manish Beri becomes Chief Information Officer and Chief Security Officer, and Philip Clancey becomes Chief Actuary and Risk Officer.

US – Aborn & Co, a logistics consulting and freight management firm, has announced the appointment of Jill Clifford as President of the company. Clifford has over 25 years of leadership experience in a variety of high acting roles with Aborn & Co. She has handled nearly every job at the company, including business development, marketing, accounting, and customer relations.

US – Hertz Global Holdings has announced that Opal Perry will join the company as Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer.

US – Following the merger of Elite Global Logistics Network (EGLN) and the World Cargo Alliance (WCA) in 2017, the WCAhas announced the appointment of Matthew West, WCA Director of North America, as ELGN's Managing Director.

US – Masterpiece International has announced Susan Erfesoglou as its new Vice President of Operations, effective since Auagust 1. Erfesoglou has been a leader at Masterpiece International for over 17 years, including roles as Houston Branch Manager, Compliance Team Leader, and VP of Internal Operations. She will be based out of Houston, Texas and report directly to the Masterpiece International President, Thomas Gilgen.

US – BorgWarner announced that Deborah McWhinney and Paul Mascarenas have been named to its Board of Directors. McWhinney is the former Division CEO, Global Enterprise Payments at Citigroup, and Mascarenas is the former Chief Technical Officer of Ford Motor Company.
