UK Freight Haulage Group Continues Expansion

Bibby Make Another Acquisition

UK – Bibby Distribution has continued its policy of expansion through acquisitions with the takeover of key assets this week of the defunct haulage operator MRS Distribution from receivers KPMG. Bathgate based MRS have 11 depots (or 13 according to their website) stretching as far as Sheerness, Kent and Bibby have apparently purchased a large slice of the English operations in a sell off which sees the company split up.

Bibby will control contracts such as Board24 and Greif UK which means 103 ex MRS employees will transfer to Bibby immediately whilst 43 others will be laid off. A substantial section of MRS business was formerly the Highlands and Islands business of JBT Distribution whom MRS bought out in 2008. This business has apparently been bought back by the JBT management team saving many other jobs.

The asset takeover is consistent with Bibby’s long term strategy, in April the company acquired the warehouse and transport specialist Tay Group who operated from four strategically placed sites and numbered several blue chip companies amongst their customers. Bibby’s policy is to buy up any suitably priced competitor whose profile is complementary to the group’s current business.
