UK – Established Kent haulier Gunns Transport has been placed into administration. The axe finally fell last week after the Handy Shipping Guide was asked by the company in early January not to reveal that their bankers had withdrawn support and they were seeking alternative funds. The full and less than truck load (LTL) carrier was begun in 1980 and ran as a family firm until 2008 when a management buy out was effected.

Gunns will be sorely missed by many, particularly the South London freight forwarding community to whom it provided collection and delivery services with a fleet of mixed vehicles from HIAB’s and artics to tautliners and tail lifts.

The company’s telephone system has been disconnected and calls should be via the administrators RMS Tenon. Gunns, after showing a profit for 2007 on an £8 million plus turnover have failed to file figures subsequently.
