BERMUDA – Textainer Group Holdings Ltd, who own or manage 2.3 million TEU’s worldwide, have announced that at the beginning of the month they transferred ownership of 31,000 containers which they had been managing for UK based Amphibious Container Leasing Limited (Amficon) to increase the ownership portion of their fleet.

In April Textainer, principally controlled by the South African registered holding company Trencor Services pty, announced it had purchased the management rights to Amficon’s 150,000 strong container fleet. Despite other major players, such as HSH Nordbank, leaving the container lease market as the sector contracts Textainer lay claim to over 400 lease customers including most of the major shipping lines plus numerous buyers for used stock.

Replacement value of the Textainer fleet is estimated at a figure approaching $4 billion and they have offices in all principal regions. The latest acquisition includes principally dry freight boxes with around 11,000 being specialist units such as flat racks and open tops.
