Demise of Air Cargo Boss Announced

Shipping News Feature UK – Yet another week when we start the appointments and departures in the shipping and logistics world with sad news. Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA) has announced the passing of Dayle Hauxwell, Head of Cargo for DSA following a short illness. Hauxwell was diagnosed with Cancer in 2016 and fought hard to beat it. In recent weeks his illness returned and it was aggressive. His health declined very quickly and Hauxwell passed away peacefully on Friday 26th January.

UK – The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) has announced the appointment of Guy Platten as its new Secretary General, succeeding Peter Hinchliffe, who leaves the role he has held since 2010. Platten, currently CEO at the UK Chamber of Shipping, will be taking up the role in mid-2018 on a date to be confirmed later in the year.

In recognition of his long and invaluable contribution to the work of the ICS, Simon Bennett, currently Director Policy and External Relations, is promoted to a new position as Deputy Secretary General.

UK – Mark Carne, Chief Executive of Network Rail has announced his decision to retire from the company, later this year. The timing of his announcement ensures that a new Chief Executive will be established in the role before the start of the next five year regulatory control period which begins in April 2019.

UK – Hermes Logistics Technologies (HLT) has appointed Alexis Labonne as Chief Technology Officer (CTO), taking over from Oded Lavee.

UK – Simon Barkworth, Managing Director of Crown Lift Trucks has been appointed as the new President of the British Industrial Truck Association (BITA). As BITA celebrates its 75th anniversary, Simon has moved up into his new role from the position of Vice-President, succeeding outgoing President Tim Waples who is stepping down after his second period in office.

UK – UK Export Finance (UKEF) has announced a series of appointment to its senior management. Richard Simon-Lewis has been named Head of Origination, Client Coverage, Marketing and Communications, Adam Harris as Head of Civil, Infrastructure and Energy, and Andy Blacksell, Head of Underwriting Policy and Products.

NORWAY – UK – Maritime navigation supplier Nautisk has announced Espen Martinsen as its new Commercial Director, based at the company’s head office in Oslo, Norway, and John Dawson as Project Manager, based in the UK.

GERMANY – Thomas Grunau has taken over as the new Chief Executive Officer of DHL’s digital freight platform, Saloodo!, succeeding Amadou Diallo, who has been named as the new CEO of DHL Global Forwarding Middle East, Africa. Grunau joins the group from Kuehne + Nagel, where he held various management positions.

US – BNSF Logistics has announced Dan Curtis as its new President, effective immediately. Curtis has served as BNSF Logistics' Chief Operating Officer since 2014 and has more than 15 years of experience in the transportation and logistics industry.

US – Rick Meidel has joined Crowley Fuels as Vice President and General Manager, based at the company’s Alaska division in Anchorage, and reports to Rocky Smith, Senior Vice President and General Manager. Meidel is an energy industry veteran, having spent 32 years with ExxonMobil in downstream lubricants, retail fuels marketing, refinery optimisation and natural gas and co-generation power commercialisation.

US – Seko Logistics has appointed Shawn Richard to the newly created post of Vice President Global Airfreight, reporting to Terry Unrein, Chief Commercial Officer, Americas.

US – Cargo Network Services (CNS) has announced Michael White as its new President, succeeding Lionel van der Walt, who left CNS earlier this year to become Executive Vice President of RCI. White most recently served as the network's Vice President of Government and Industry Relations.

US – YRC Worldwide President and Chief Operating Officer Darren Hawkins has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI).

US – American Tire Distributors has announced former Ford CEO, Mark Fields to its Board of Directors.

US – Matheson Flight Extenders (MFE) has announced Tim Noel as Vice President and Phong Vang as Director of Flight Operations

US – Dupré Logistics has announced the promotion of Al Lacombe to Vice President of Safety and Risk Management. Lacombe began working at Dupré in 1982 as a professional driver and served in that role for 3 years. He then worked in the operations centre as a dispatcher for one year and then was promoted to the Director of Safety and has served in that role until this most recent promotion to Vice President. 

US – Allison Transmission Holdings has announced the decision that both Francis Raborn and James Star will not stand for re-election to the Board of Directors. Raborn and Star will continue to serve as Directors and Members of the Board Committees on which they serve until their current terms expire at the 2018 annual meeting of stockholders. Raborn serves on the Audit Committee and Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee, and Star serves on the Compensation Committee.

CANADA – Ritchie Bros. has announced that Group President, Jim Barr will leave the company effective February 16, by mutual decision, as a result of structural changes undertaken by Ritchie Bros., as part of its IronPlanet integration efforts.

CHINA – ZTO Express has announced Jianfa Lai as Vice President of Operations and Huiping Yan as Vice President of Finance. Concurrently, Renqun Jin, Genyan Ni, and Zhiwei Zhao have resigned from their positions as Vice President of Service and Support, Vice President of Operations, and Vice President of Administration, respectively.
