Shipping News Feature AUSTRIA – CHINA – Fischamend headquartered cargo-partner, which offers a full suite of logistics optimisation services to supply chain customers, has been supporting children studying at a remote school in the Chinese mountains after learning that 520 of the 590 students attending classes were sleeping in the school as their family homes were simply too far way to travel on a daily basis.

Unfortunately the Dazhai Primary elementary school in Jinping County in the east of Yunnan Province was only able to provide 288 beds. In addition, most of the desks and chairs were in very poor condition and the school was unable to replace them due to shortage of funds. The south western Chinese landlocked and mountainous province itself has many rural areas steeped in poverty, prompting cargo-partner to act immediately.

The info-logistics provider donated a total of 200 desks and chairs, 130 bunk beds and 260 bedding sets for a brand new dormitory building that is still under construction. The delivery of all donated items was completed in July. In addition, the company has made a commitment to support the local government in building up a charity supermarket for people living in the mountain area with the aim of raising the living standards in the region.

Finally, cargo-partner organised a special trip for the children to the Zotter Chocolate Theatre in Shanghai (Zotter is a famous Austrian chocolate manufacturer) where they spent half a day learning about chocolate and even got the chance to make their own chocolate to bring home, prompting Gill Wu, Managing Director of cargo-partner in Central China, to comment:

“Many of the children have never visited sizable cities or tried chocolate before, so this was quite an experience for them! We are very glad to grasp this opportunity to make a small difference in the children’s lives.”

The supply chain company’s efforts followed actions earlier this year, when cargo-partner in China participated in a donation campaign which helped to sponsor breakfasts to children living in the mountain regions of Yunnan Province. In addition to a donation made directly by the company, cargo-partner’s staff in China had also made their personal donation to support the campaign.

The logistics industry is renowned for supporting those less fortunate and, as part of its comprehensive CSR strategy, cargo-partner itself regularly supports a range of social and environmental projects around the world. In Nitra, Slovakia, the logistics provider has been funding a day-care centre for Roma and Sinti children in cooperation with the non-profit organization Jugend Eine Welt since 2014.

Thanks to the early education programs provided at the centre, children overcome the language barrier between their Roma mother tongue and the Slovak language and benefit from an easier entry into the public school system. In addition, the counselling services for mothers have helped to improve family lives. Following these positive results, cargo-partner has recently reaffirmed its support for the initiative and will be funding the project for two more years, until August 2021.
