ITALY – Yesterday Ceva Logistics officially opened its ‘City of Pharma’ storage and distribution hub dedicated to serving the healthcare market. The 20,000 square metre centre follows Ceva’s ‘City of Books’ project which saw companies from the same industry strategically housed together in one location. The latest addition is sited in Stradella, in province of Pavia and has access to major freight arteries being at the intersection of the country’s rail and road routes.

The City of Pharma has been built in collaboration with Akno Business Parks, using state-of-the-art technological solutions and is equipped with all the necessary provisions for accurate temperature control, a vital resource when dealing in this particular market. With flexible space options and the ability to expand by an additional 40,000 square metres Ceva says it can respond to any increase in market demand should the need arise.

Ceva has been able to demonstrate once again its commitment to green warehousing as the The City of Pharma hub has been equipped with a photovoltaic system that will produce 1,100 MWh per year, equivalent to the annual consumption of 400 homes, saving on average about 80 tonnes of CO2 emissions. Giuseppe Chiellino, Managing Director for Ceva in Italy, was clearly delighted at the new acquisition, saying:

"We are one of the first logistics operators in Italy able to manage European logistics integration for healthcare products, such as vaccines, antibiotics and life-saving drugs, which require specialist storage and handling. The City of Pharma is a multi-market hub, the centre of a network that enables distribution throughout Italy and many other markets such as Eastern Europe and the Balkans. In the current economic climate, Ceva can be an important partner for pharmaceutical companies, by supporting them in designing more sophisticated logistics processes and reaching new markets in an even more efficient way.

"The official opening of this warehouse reinforces Ceva’s leading presence in the Italian market and commitment to providing unique solutions for the healthcare industry. We also continue to implement our strategy of creating specialized multi customer logistics hubs that deliver true value and considerable economies of scale. Thanks to shared technologies, skills, rooms and, not least, transport, Ceva is able to meet the most sophisticated needs of its customers in this highly regulated and sophisticated market, while driving cost out of the supply chain."
